Early Fire Detection and Suppression System
Wildfires are becoming more frequent and destructive due to climate change, threatening ecosystems, communities, and critical infrastructure. This multidisciplinary VIP project aims to develop and deploy a pilot early wildfire detection and response-support system. Students from different engineering disciplines will collaborate to design environmental sensing nodes, wireless communication networks, infrared monitoring systems, drone-assisted response technologies, and decision-support tools. The project combines hardware, software, mechanical design, electronics, communications, and systems integration, culminating in the deployment of a functional pilot system. The project offers students the opportunity to work on a real-world engineering challenge with environmental and societal impact while collaborating with external stakeholders and contributing to wildfire resilience in Lebanon.
